Eddie C.Y. Kuo (PhD, Minnesota) is a Professorial Fellow in the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), of which he was the Founding Dean of the School (1992-2003). He is also the Advisor to the Singapore Internet Research Centre (SiRC) at NTU.

In 2003-2005, he served as (founding) Interim Dean of the new School of Humanities & Social Sciences at NTU. In 2003-2006 he was appointed as a council member of the NTU Council. Before joining NTU, Professor Kuo was formerly Head of the Sociology Department, Director of the Centre for Advanced Studies, and Head of the Mass Communication Department at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

A sociologist by training, Professor Kuo's research interests include communication policy and planning, new media and information society, cultural policy and national integration, and sociology of multilingualism.

Professor Kuo is the founding editor (since 1990) of Asian Journal of Communication (published by Routledge), and serves on the editorial / advisory boards of several academic journals. He is Honorary / Guest Professor in Xiamen University, Liaoning University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Shanghai Jiaotong University in China, National Chengchi University in Taiwan, and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) in Malaysia. He was Vice President of International Association of Media Communication Research (IAMCR), 2000-2004, and is currently Honorary Chairman of Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC), Singapore.

Active in public service in Singapore, Professor Kuo served as Board Director of the National Computer Board (NCB) in 1992-1994, the Singapore Broadcasting Authority (SBA) in 1994-2000, and the Media Development Authority (MDA) in 2003-2005. He currently serves as council member in the Bioethics Advisory Committee (BAC) under the Ministry of Health, as well as the Council of the Impact of New Media on Society (AIMS) under the Ministry of Information, Communication and the Arts. Professor Kuo is also a member of National Library Advisory Committee under the National Library Board (NLB), and a member of the NAC Advisory Panel under the National Art Council (NAC).

In recognition of his contribution to public services, he was conferred the national honour of Public Service Medal (PBM) in 1997, and Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2001 by the President of the Republic of Singapore.
