Bringing families

Oxford and the surrounding area is a great place to bring your family .. the University website has details of what to do at: http://www.ox.ac.uk/visitors_friends/visiting_the_university/index.html

Getting to Oxford

The Oxford Internet Institute is located at 1 St Giles in Central Oxford. This is just a 5-10 min walk from the Oxford railway and central coach (ask for 'Gloucester Green') stations. A map of central Oxford can be found at: http://www.ox.ac.uk/visitors_friends/maps_and_directions/

Travelling from London (Paddington station) by train

There is an hourly (half-hourly at peak times) First Great Western Trains service from Paddington railway station to Oxford, which takes about 1 hour. Fare prices and booking are available online (note that it is cheaper to travel after 9.30 am).

Travelling from London (Victoria station) by coach

There are two coach services connecting Oxford and London. They both run every 15-20 min during the day (30-60 min during evening and night) with a journey time of about 1.5-2 hours. Timetables and maps showing other pickup / drop off points in London are available from the websites of the bus services.

The Oxford Tube coach service leaves from just outside Victoria railway station ('Grosvenor Gardens' bus stop).

The X90 Oxford-London Espress coach service leaves from Victoria Coach Station (a short walk from the railway and underground stations).

For travelling across London, see tube map: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tube/maps/

Travelling from overseas

Oxford is well connected to the London airports by coach, however, there are no direct train services. We recommend that overseas travellers fly in to Heathrow: the Heathrow-Oxford coach link is the quickest airport bus service to Oxford.

Heathrow airport to Oxford: the X70 Citylink Airline coach to Oxford departs from the Heathrow Central Bus Station (for Terminals 1, 2 or 3) and from Terminal 4. Buses run every 30 min with a journey time to Oxford of about 70 min (90 min from Terminal 4).

Gatwick airport to Oxford: the X80 Oxford-Gatwick Airline coach departs from the South and North Terminals. Buses run every hour with a journey time to Oxford of about 2 hours.

Stansted airport to Oxford: the National Express Jetlink 757 runs every 2 hours with a journey time to Oxford of about 3 hours.

Driving to Oxford

Oxford is not designed for cars. Parking is close to impossible in the city centre, and the one-way system is confusing .. conference delegates are recommended not to hire a car.
