FAQs

What is the 'ezmlm program'?

Ezmlm ('easy mailing list manager') is Oxford University's automated mailing list manager, used to manage the OII mailing lists. Requests to subscribe or unsubscribe to any of our lists are handled automatically by the Ezmlm program.

Why have I received a 'confirmation' email?

All email addresses are confirmed prior to adding or removing them from our mailing lists to prevent forged or unwanted requests. Please make sure to reply to the confirmation email from the email address you wish to subscribe or unsubscribe.

I have not replied to the 'confirmation' email...

The confirmation email will be valid for a period of 10 days. If you do not reply within this period, your request to subscribe or unsubscribe will be cancelled. If you reply to it after the 10-day period a new confirmation email will be sent to you. Please reply to the new confirmation email within 10 days to confirm your request.

How do I change my email address?

Please unsubscribe your old email address and subscribe your new email address.

I have received a 'bounce warning' message. What is this?

As part of maintenance, mailing lists automatically unsubscribe any email addresses that repeatedly bounce messages. If you receive a 'bounce warning' or 'probe' email, please ignore it, as this means that delivery has been successful and you will continue to be subscribed to the list. If you seem to have stopped receiving messages (and you have not received a 'bounce warning' or 'probe' email) then your email address may have been removed by maintenance. Please subscribe again to the list if you would like to continue to receive the messages.

Is there an archive of the mailing list?

Not all mailing lists have archives: even if there is one, access may be restricted to subscribers or administrators only. Please check the list's policy with the list owner.

I still need help!

If you are still experiencing difficulties with one of our mailing lists, please forward a copy of the email, with a note briefly describing the issue you are experiencing, to the relevant list owner:
