Summer Doctoral Programme 2013

Summer Doctoral Programme 2013 The eleventh Oxford Internet Institute (OII) Summer Doctoral Programme (SDP) was held at the iSchool, University of Toronto, from 8-19 July 2013, thanks to the kind support and engagement of Dean of the iSchool, Professor Seamus Ross, and all his staff. Although the structure of the 2013 Programme was similar to that in previous years, we were able to build upon the research strengths of both OII and the iSchool and were delighted to involve 10 faculty members from the University of Toronto as well academics from Ryerson University, York University and the University of Western Ontario. Highlights of the programme included a keynote lecture from Professor Barry Wellman, a day of seminars at Ryerson, and a social trip canoeing between the islands in Toronto harbour.

Academic programme

Highlights of the academic programme included Barry Wellman on The Triple Revolution: How Networked Individualism Plays Out in Community, Family and Work, Leslie Regan Shade on Young Canadians, Participatory Digital Culture and Policy Literacy, Jason Nolan on Networked Sociality and ‘the autistic panic’, and Ron Deibert and Masahi Nishihata on Mixed method Approaches to Studying Information Controls.
